Soy allergy

Especially in Asia and the USA, but also in Europe soy proteins are gaining more and more importance. Today soy counts among the world’s staple foods. Soy is a legume, as are lentils, beans, peanuts and peas. (1)

Babies can already show signs of an allergy to soy; but there is always the possibility that the allergy might die down over time. Allergic reactions to soy that first occur in adulthood usually mean that the person afflicted will have to give up soy products altogether for the rest of their life. (2) With adults who have been diagnosed with soy allergy sensitisation is caused mainly by inhalation. (3) However, allergic reactions to soy products can also happen in connection with a birch-associated food allergy.
