Soy allergy

Soy is a legume, as are lentils, beans, peanuts and peas. Throughout the world soy proteins are becoming a more and more important of people's diets. Today soy is counted as one of the world’s staple foods and along with this one of its most common allergens. Eventhough soy may not be a common grocery item in countries like the US, it has become a major ingredient in processed food products. Thus, avoiding products made with soy can be difficult.

Babies as well as adults can suffer from soy allergy, although it is quite likely the allergy will diminish and disappear over time for babies. Allergic reactions to soy that first occur in adulthood usually mean that the person afflicted with it will have to give up soy products altogether for the rest of their life

You can find information on diagnosis of food allergies and intolerances here.

DELICARDO Foodcards:

We highly recommend the use of DELICARDO Foodcards for soy allergy sufferers. When eating dishes prepared by someone else it is important that allergies and intolerances are clearly communicated to the cook and/or service personnel.
